Saffron Production and Export Development Agency (SPEDA)

Government of India has also notified the formation of an exclusive Committee to be known as ‘Saffron Production and Export Development Agency (SPEDA) for the overall development of the Saffron industry in the state of J&K vide Gazette notification dated 18^th March 2015. The Agency will be Head Quartered in Srinagar with Commerce Secretary, Govt. of India and Chief Secretary of J&K as Co-Chairman. The Agency shall consist of members representing the State Govt. of J&K, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Commerce, Spices Board, ICAR, other related Central / State organisations and various stake holders of the Industry viz. growers, traders and exporters of Saffron. SPEDA will assist and encourage creation of appropriate infrastructure for processing, packing, warehousing, research and also establish quality evaluation laboratory for Saffron. SPEDA shall act as a subordinate agency under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in the Central Government and function under overall authority, supervision and control of Spices Board.
