Planting materials |
: |
Only healthy/disease free mother clumps are
to be used. Approved cultivar for the locality may be collected
from the ICRI Research Station. If sufficient quantity is not available
in the Research Station, high yielding types from sources identified
/ approved by the Board has to be used |
Method of lanting
, spacing, season for planting etc. |

Trenches of 60 x 30 cms. size with interspace
of 60 cms. at convenient length. Provide 50% shade, preferably using
agro shade net for overehead pandals. Ideal season is May –
June. |
Number of mother suckers |
: |
2,000 planting units per nursery with production
target of 10,000 planting units. |
Maintenance |
: |
Cultural operations and management should be
strictly as per the guidelines issued by the Spices Board. Operations
for control of pest and diseases, manurial applications etc. have
to be carried out in time as per the advice / guidelines of the
Board. For proper establishment and adequate production of healthy
planting materials, organic manures like compost, cattle manure,
neem / groundnut cake etc. has to be applied as basal dose in adequate
quantity during preparation of trenches and thereafter at periodic
intervals. |
Nursery site |
: |
Nursery site should be located at a minimum
distance of 500 metres from the cardamom plantations to avoid viral
infection. |
Planting unit |
: |
A grown up tiller with a minimum of one young
shoot will be considered as a planting unit for counting purpose.

Supervision |
: |
The nursery should be under the direct supervision
of an Extension/Field Assistant who should visit atleast once in
two months. The Field Officer / Assistant Director has to visit
the nursery atleast once in six months. |
Register |
: |
A register has to be maintained by the certified
nursery owner and should be made available to the Inspecting Officers
for recording their observation / advices. |
Maximum eligibility |
: |
Two full nurseries per farmer. |
Banking finance |
: |
If the grower is interested to avail bank finance,
required feasibility report may be given by the concerned officer. |
