| TRAINING PROGRAMME ON QUALITY IMPROVEMENT |
The Board has developed modules for training farmers, traders, processors and exporters to improve the quality of spices produced and exported from the country at two levels. A core group of master trainers are developed by providing training to the officials from the department of Agriculture/Horticulture of the spice producing states. They will be exposed to the production, harvest, post harvest operations, processing, packing, storage and export of spices. They will also be trained on the inspection and quality control of spices as per the international requirements. The second level of training is conducted to the farmers in the major spice producing states with the help of master trainers. Master trainers will be provided with course materials in vernacular, audio visual aids and financial assistance to conduct training programme in groups of 25 to 30 in the major spice producing villages. |
| TRAINING ON ANALYSIS OF SPICES AND SPICE PRODUCTS |
The laboratory is providing training to the technical personnel from the spice industry, Govt. officials and NGOs on the analysis of spices and spice products. Specialized training programmes for a period of 5 days are designed to cater the needs of the industry. Training programmes in the field of physico-chemical analysis, analysis of pesticide residues, aflatoxin and microbiological techniques are provided on a regular basis. On an average of 50 to 60 participants are trained every year in the above fields. |
| TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR THE TECHNICAL PERSONNEL IN THE LABORATORY |
To equip the laboratory with the state of art of
technology followed in importing countries, technical personnel attached
to the Board's laboratory along with technical personnel from the spice
industry are sent to well established laboratories in US, Europe and Japan.
The technical personnel are trained on advanced techniques in physico-chemical
analysis, in the field of microbiology and residue analysis like pesticide
residues and aflatoxin. |
On completion of the training programme, dissemination
of the information on the latest methods is arranged to technical personnel
in spice industry. Such training programmes are arranged in cities like
Kochi, Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai. |
