VANILLA |

| New Planting: | |
During the X Plan Board
proposes to bring 5000 ha. of land under vanilla cultivation under its
assistance programme where planting material would be provided at 50%
of the cost to small farmers. Private initiative is expected to bring
another 10000 ha. under vanilla cultivation during the same period. |

| Vanilla Curing Units: | |
To maximize the revenue to the growers,
Board promotes on-farm curing of vanilla beans. 25% of the cost of curing
units subject to a maximum of Rs.2,500/- per unit will be provided by
the Board. |

HERBAL SPICES |

To encourage growers to
take up cultivation of herbal spices such as Rosemary, Thyme, Parsley
& Oregano, Board offers Rs.25,000/- per ha as subsidy. |

SAFFRON |
|
Non-availability of quality planting material is a major limiting factor for saffron cultivation. Board proposes to assist State Agri Universities/Research Institutions to undertake research for the development of quality planting material (corm) and to multiply such planting materials for distribution among growers during the tenth plan period. |

PAPRIKA |
|
Almost 50% of the world trade in chilli is of the Paprika variety, which is not grown in India. Spices Board proposes to encourage growers to take up paprika cultivation by offering 50% of the cost of imported hybrid seeds subject to a maximum of Rs.7, 500/- per ha. |
