| Vanilla Award |
Vanilla award was instituted by the Spices Board to recognize vanilla growers who achieve high levels of productivity. The award consists of one first prize and two second prizes. The first prize carries a cash award of Rs. 25,000/-, a citation and certificate. Each second prize carries a cash award of Rs. 15,000/-, a citation and certificate. The winners of the Vanilla Award 2002 and 2003 were selected based on the claims filed and verified in 2002-03 and 2003-04. |

Shri H.B.Surendra Chithgal is a progressive Vanilla grower from Shimoga District of Karnataka. He planted vanilla in an area of 1.35 hectare and the yield obtained by him was 716 Kgs. of cured vanilla beans per hectare. He adopted recommended cultural practices and applied organic inputs which resulted in such excellent level of productivity. |

| Shri Ramachandra Venketaramana Hegde is an enthusiastic vanilla grower from North Kanara District of Karnataka. He interplanted vanilla with arecanut in 0.80 hectare. During the year he obtained a yield of 688 Kgs. of cured vanilla per hectare. Proper shade management, mulching, judicious irrigation and application of organic inputs were the factors behind his success. |

Shri M.N.Chandranath is a progressive vanilla grower from Wynad District of Kerala. He planted Vanilla as a pure crop in 0.40 hectare. During the year he obtained a yield of 633 Kgs. of cured vanilla per hectare. Factors contributing to his success were application of organic inputs, proper shade management, mulching and judicious irrigation. |

Though he planted vanilla only in an area of 0.60 hectare the yield obtained by him was 1075 Kgs. of cured vanilla beans per hectare. Adoption of recommended cultural practices and application of organic inputs resulted in such excellent level of productivity. |
